A Sunny Day Sewing

1 Mar

The sun was out, the daffodils in bloom and it was St David’s Day – what more could you want? …. a day of sewing of course!

GQ members met on 1 March with the same enthusiasm as always for a bit of sewing and a good gossip! Plus, once more they had the opportunity to purchase some much needed fabrics from Sue Bowers, the owner of Patchwork House in Llantrisant. And, what a wonderful choice there was too – Llantrisant mus be the place to visit for fab fabrics!

As ever, members were busy on a variety of projects. Celina showed off a quilt that she has just made from a Moda scrap bag – under the instruction of Jeannie Hainsworth Lamb!

Rhona was decorating coat hangers with hearts – her contribution to the Quilter’s Guild Tombola for the Festival of Quilts in August.

She did mention she hated hearts!

Fran is still working on her book – with is amazing.

And, for some reason, though it was only March, Christmas was on the agenda. Helen was asking people to collect cotton bobbins to make decorations the tree festival in Holy Cross in December.

Sonia showed a Christmas table runner quilt and mentioned that she is planning to run a workshop in October.

The day was rounded off with an interesting talk from Pat Nicholls who has been patchwork and quilting for over 25 years. As well as lecturing in Britain she has been the guest speaker at several events in the United States, and taught workshops in France and Spain. She was one of the Founder members of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, finishing her ten year’s service on the Executive Council as President.

Below are some examples of Pat’s quilts.
