AGM and Summer Lunch

5 Jul

Today the Glamorgan Quilters Annual General meeting took place in Ystradowen Village Hall. And, once the business had been completed everyone settled down for the annual summer lunch. Special thanks must go to GQ member Julia Fulford who produced the most wonderful spread of food!

And before moving on to hear speaker Pauline Barnes there was time for a good gossip!

Pauline Barnes took the stage at 2.00pm. She gave an interesting insight into how she got started at sewing and brought some of her work to demonstrate her achievements. She also gave useful information about the different threads and needles that can be used for the various techniques.

Today, was also the day that judging took place to identify this years winner of the Wendy Surridge challenge. Congratulations to Jackie Pugh who was voted this years winner with her beautiful poppy quilt.

And, congratulations to Salinder Gammidge who was runner up.

And, if Saturday wasn’t enough some members regrouped on Sunday for a workshop with Pauline.

It was a great day. There was so much to learn from Pauline in terms of stitching techniques and exploring how much can be achieved with your sewing machine. Certainly a day to be recommended!

Thanks for being so prompt with the blog, Monica – we only ended Pauline’s workshop an hour before! Thank you Julia for the food, farewell to Lynne as chairman and Jeannie as treasurer and our gratitude.
Pauline’s workshop was very thought provoking and gave us some clever techniques that I’ll look forward to seeing in our work. It really made me appreciate her very skilled and innovative quilts. And she didn’t make us change our bobbin tension if we didn’t want to!

I forgot to say thank you to you all for the round of applause when I came into the AGM yesterday. What a surprise! I really appreciate it and I am glad to say I am feeling much better.
