Kent on Quilting!

10 Apr

This month Helen Kent, Assistant Editor of Patchwork and Quilting magazine, came to talk to us about her quilting journey. Very interesting it was too, and similar to a lot of us in that it fits in around another job, home and family. Helen is a Finger Print Officer for half the week so is quite used to precision and accuracy. When an opportunity came up to go for an interview for Assistant Editor at Patchwork and Quilting magazine, she seized the chance and now juggles the week between two jobs.

Always into sewing, Helen made her own wedding dress. She loves crafting, trying out most crafts as time went on. Then, on the advice of her Aunt, Helen tried out Patchwork and Quilting. The rest is history, she was hooked. This is where she started with christmas fabrics and a sampler quilt.

Helen went on to teach classes in her local shop Cotton Angel in Monmouth, using Jelly Rolls and now also teaches Bargello too. Are’t these amazing!

Thank you Helen for a very informative talk!

Members showed a stunning range of paper pieced Hexagon designs this month. It certainly isn’t going out of fashion if it ever did! Complete quilts and borders, I wonder….

Perhaps someone would be up for a mini class within a meeting to give a few of us some tips on how to go about it??

Last but not least Helen’s flower and butterfly quilt is looking fabulous too!
