Ystradowen Opens New Hall Annex!

29 Apr

It was a very stormy start to the day on Saturday. Would anyone come to the new Annex opening? Cakes, scones and cookies, would they all go to the birds? Well the wind died down a little, a watery sun came out and by mid afternoon…..the people arrived!

Community Councillor Ann Jarvis admiring the work of Glamorgan Quilters and the Goldwork Group who both hire the village hall.

Julie Taylor from the Goldwork group came with some gorgeous work to display!

A huge thank you to everyone who gave me items to display. It was much admired and I had a lot of enquiries about Glamorgan Quilters. It all helped to make it a very successful day!

Thread Play and Free Motion Quilting.

17 Apr

Jan Webster shared her knowledge with members today when she gave us a tutorial on machine quilting and a talk about thread play. Jan joined our group in September and was persuaded to step in when our trader was unable to come to the meeting. This is a great way for everyone to get to know Jan and to learn a little something along the way. When it comes to free motion quilting I need all the help I can get!

Jan’s talk about thread was a revelation! There are so many things to know, even down to the needles. How I love threads and who knew we don’t have to spend too much money! If you would like to watch a
Dr Bob tutorial on YouTube go to Thread Play

Then visitor Sue from CLIC, the Craft Group that meets in Colwinston, brought along some of the quilts they have made.
Since last September they have been working on 3 large wall hangings, one
patchwork ,one knitting and crochet and one made of felt . These are going
to be exhibited at the Wonderwool Wales show on the Royal Welsh Showground that takes place on April – 27th and 28th. Sue brought along the wonderful patchwork rainbow hexagons, so you will have to go along to the show to see it, and all the other delights at the show.
