Glamorgan Quilters September 2017 Newsletter

Hello All,

The Summer flew by and here we are in September already!

Subscriptions are due so you can sign up for the coming year at the meeting. Membership fees need to be paid by the October meeting and a membership form is attached.  The subscription has increased to £35.00. Please bring cash or cheque payment. Alternatively, you can post a completed form along with cheque to Isobelle Davis whose details are on the attached form. If anyone is not rejoining it would be helpful if they could let Isobelle know as soon as possible so that we can finalize numbers.

N.B: The return of a completed form is required so that we can ensure that we have members up to date contact details, to help track monies and to comply with the constitution.

We have an interesting year planned with lots of happy quilting and fabric goodness to enjoy.

I’m going to mention the “C” word which in my opinion shouldn’t be in the vocabulary until November! We need to make Christmas Tree decorations for the Holy Cross Church Christmas Tree festival and they take time, so it has to be said! Could you bring any ideas/suggestions/examples to the meeting so that we can compare and choose please? We could even choose a couple of favourites and mix it up this year!

Our trip to the West Country Quilt and Textile Show was a great success, many thanks to Salinder for organising it so well. I think everyone enjoyed the day and the venue!

There is a GOLDWORK/UFO DAY on Sunday 10th September at Ystradowen village Hall between 10am and 3.30pm. For more information, email Salinder Gammage T: 01443 224550 or 07996 697158. Email salg96@btinternet.com

To support the Cowbridge 2014 – 2018 WW1 Commemorations a group of sewing enthusiasts are planning to make a quilt to remember all those from Cowbridge, Llanblethian and Aberthin who have died in conflict from 1914 to the present day. The completed quilt will be displayed in Cowbridge on Remembrance Day 2018.

We need your help with embroidering the names of those who lost their lives onto small panels of fabric which will form the main body of the quilt.  You don’t have to be expert – simple stitch is all we need.

We will be running sewing sessions on 13th & 26th October between 1.30pm and 4.30pm in the Lesser Hall, Town Hall, Cowbridge. If you are interested in joining us or would like further information please email mdennis.wales@gmail.com or tel: 07811 159800.

The CE WW1 Quilts  are being exhibited at the Autumn Malvern Quilt Show and the publicity flyers are out. A picture of Fran Barrett’s quilt features on the flyer to promote the fact that our quilts are being exhibited at the show – so, get the date in your diary –  Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd October 2017 – 10:00am – 4:30pm (4pm on Sunday).
