Christmas is Coming!

4 Oct

At our October meeting a number of members were busy preparing for Christmas! Many visited the activity table to help make Christmas decorations for the GQ tree which will be on display during the Holy Cross Christmas tree festival between 27-29 November 2015. Many thanks to those who gave their time …. and, we look forward to receiving more next month!

There were also a number of other members who were busy preparing Christmas goodies for themselves…

After canvassing for workshop ideas Jackie Pugh offered to run a workshop to make this beautiful table runner which can either be made for Christmas or anytime of the year – we will keep you posted.

And, Ann Williams brought some small quilts that a friend (from an English quilt group) had made. They were made to represent a book title, film etc. For example, the first one below is the film Free Willy. Can you guess the rest?

We also welcomed new member Pat Wallace – great addition to the group as she immediately got stuck in with the Christmas decorations!

And. we said hello to guest Karen, a friend of Salinders who also gave her time to make decorations – very much appreciated!

And, last but not least, a big thank you to Hilary who stood in at short notice to give a talk. Continuing the vintage theme from Caroline’s talk last month she took us through a journey of her sewing career with a memories journal that she had made for her sister Jocelyn. And, to support that journey she showed many pieces of haberdashery and embroidery memorabilia.

A great day and looking forward to the next already!

24 Nov

The Glamorgan Quilters festive Christmas tree is now up with many others in the Holy Cross Church, Cowbridge.

2014 Christmas tree

The tree this year has new lights giving it that extra sparkle. It is also trimmed with ribbon measuring tape and a flurry of hand made decorations reflecting the quilters touch!

Many thanks to those who made decorations which look delightful – and thanks to Jeannie Duncan Farr who has made a tree skirt which adds that finishing touch!

Don’t forget to go and take a peek when you are passing by the church.

The GQ Christmas Tree

8 Dec

Glamorgan Quilters have once again decorated a Christmas tree for the Christmas tree festival in the Holy Cross Church, Cowbridge.

This year it is adorned with little Christmas trees that have been made from Suffolk Puffs.

Committee member Helen had the grand job of fixing the star, and by the look on her face is wondering whether it is going to stay in place!

Glamorgan Quilters in Action

6 Oct

Glamorgan Quilters was a hive of activity yesterday with plans for the Christmas tree in the Holy Cross Church, collecting money for the Christmas lunch alongside what looked like a very interesting and productive workshop!

This year the Glamorgan Quilters Christmas tree, which will be on display with many others, will be adorned with little fabric trees made from Suffolk Puffs.

A small group were busy cutting out the fabrics needed which were then distributed to members for completion. If anyone would like to make a tree they are most welcome. If you need instructions about how to make them please email Lynne Wheeler at Catsfouryou@yahoo.co.uk

In another room Deborah O’Hare was instructing members on how to make landscapes from scraps of fabric.

Liz and Enid looked very happy with her work as did Jackie.

And, whilst Gayney was busy concentrating we were busy admiring her necklace made from buttons.

A short wander round those who weren’t involved in the workshop revealed some stunning pieces of work, including hand finished applique
