GQ members Hilary Carney, Pam Stead, Monica Dennis and Sonia Fox visited the Lake District last week to join a course being run by textile artist Gillian Travis
The textile course started by taking photos of the local landscape paying particular attention to lines and colour and with an emphasis on incorporating the style of Van Gogh, though for some this appeared to be a challenge.
The landscape was colourful and varied-ideal for creative painting and stitching!
And, some of the pieces produced reflected the colour of the Cumbrian landscapes well.
After having produced a lovely embroidered piece of stitched work (without a darning foot!) Hilary set to work on strip piecing fabric which was then printed upon ready for free machine embroidery.
And this was Monica’s finished strip fabric piece.
It was an interesting week – good company and impressive scenery, without rain which is unusual in Lake District.
